KAWS, Jenny Holzer and More Leading Artists Unite to Raise Money for Joe Biden’s Campaign

The 2020 U.S. presidential election will occur in less than two months, with over 331 million people stateside responsible for electing the next president and vice president. Renowned art dealer David Zwirner is spearheading an online-only sale of artworks called “Artists for Biden” to raise money for Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden. Over 100 artists and estates have teamed up for the fundraiser to benefit The Biden Victory Fund — a joint fundraising committee to ensure election victories for Joe Biden and Democratic vice presidential nominee, Kamala Harris, over their Republican opponents, Donald Trump and Mike Pence.

All of the proceeds from “Artists for Biden” will help provide resources needed to elect Biden and Harris to the White House as well as support other Democrats across the country in the weeks leading up to Election Day on November 3. Contributing artists include Carol Bove, Cecily Brown, Sam Gilliam, Jenny Holzer, KAWS, Ed Ruscha, Tavares Strachan, Carrie Mae Weems, Kehinde Wiley, among others.

“The campaign was excited to do an art-world fundraiser. This is a historic election, nobody will argue with that. Artists are extremely excited by this, hence the very generous outpouring of donations,” David Zwirner told Artnet News. “Nobody is in the limelight here—it’s really the art world that’s featured, and how generous it can be and how united it can be.”

The fundraiser spotlights artists not only from Zwirner, but a diverse range of galleries including Gladstone, Lehmann Maupin, and Marian Goodman Gallery. The sale coincides with the launch of Platform — a standalone website and initiative developed by Zwirner to host online sales for affiliated partners.

“Should galleries be political? I think they have to be at certain points, because artists are political,” David Zwirner said. “I have a lot of great collectors who are certainly Republican, and I hope they won’t hold this against me!”

The sale will run through October 2-8 on the official Platform website with a preview day on October 1. Check out the complete list of participating artists below.
