Blouin Division is pleased to present the work of Patrick Howlett for the first time. This exhibition brings together a body of works spanning different periods and creates a dialogue between paintings first shown in 2015 at Susan Hobbs Gallery in Toronto, brand new canvases never exhibited before, and others from the Majudia Collection. This singular gathering offers a deep dive into the artist’s pictorial research.

i can’t be sure if i successfully make room. of course we want to make room for interpretation, for meanings unintended or unconscious. make room for guests to feel welcome. welcome how? am i thinking of hospitality, or is that for other places? how do i make room for others inside my walls and make room for my own emergent intentions, for balance, value, and depth…those ethical concerns doubling as design principles. how does one make room for growth, for grief, for change and reconsiderations. after all, i'm just a flat surface borrowing the illusion of space. make room for my perspective and yours, linear or atmospheric. our vanishing points are vague, provisional, mistaken. make room for a time machine, because that’s what it is, and that’s what we are.
