ENCHANTMENT

Jul 13 - Sep 7, 2019

Opening: Jul 13, 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Galerie Division is proud to present Enchantment, a new exhibition of paintings, sculpture and installation by L.A.-based artist Greg Ito. Through Ito’s personal lexicon of symbols and imagery - burning candles, keyholes, windows, snakes, moons and suns – he explores a state of lucid dreaming in which daily life dilates into fantasy.

Ito mines his family’s history of forced relocation to concentration camps during World War II. During their internment at the Gila River War Relocation Center in Arizona, his grandparents’ romance blossomed, offering light during dark days. Ito explores this emotional tension in his work, with an immersive installation coaxing his paintings’ symbols into 3D space.

Greg Ito (1987) born Los Angeles, California, received his BFA from San Francisco Art Institute in 2008. Current exhibitions include The Garden at Penske Projects (Los Angeles), A Swamp Tale at No Place Gallery (Columbus, OH), an exhibition at The Drake Hotel (Toronto), and Absolute Space at OCHI Gallery (Ketchum, ID). Upcoming exhibitions include Anat Ebgi (Los Angeles), Weiden+Kennedy (Portland), and Smart Objects (Los Angeles). Ito was awarded a residency at The Macedonia Institute (Hudson Valley, NY) in 2020 with Mario Ayala. Recent solo exhibitions include: Hallowed Ground at ArtCubed (Los Angeles), Lullaby at Andrew Rafacz Gallery (Chicago), and Soothsayer at Steve Turner (Los Angeles).
